Guest Guide
There's bound to be some things you can't figure out in the house, or some things you can't remember being told upon arrival. The following is an alphabetical list of all the things we have thought might need a word of explanation. If you don't find the answers you need here, please contact your property management contact who will be happy to be of assistance!
A
Alarm
The house is equipped with an alarm system that is set when the house is unoccupied. It has motion sensors in the living room and each of the hallways, which are activated solely when the alarm is set. There is no need to set the alarm when you are in the house, this is only for when you vacate the premises. You will have been given a code for the alarm upon entry in the house.
Further in this manual you will find all the instructions on how the alarm system is activated and deactivated.
B
Barbecue
The outdoor kitchen is equipped with a gas barbecue. To use it, remove the cover and place it safely so that it won’t blow away, or burn in contact with the barbecue.
Ensure that the gas canister is connected and open.
Open the three burners to the highest burn position and then press the GREY starter button. This should ignite the gas and you will see flames. If this does not happen, close the burners and check the previous steps and try again.
Lower the burners to the ideal temperature you would like to cook at.
When you have finished cooking, the barbecue needs to be cleaned.
When the barbecue is no longer too hot, scrape down the grills with the grill cleaning tool.
When it has cooled down completely, it can be covered again until next use.
Please clean the barbecue properly to ensure it is usable for the next meal, or the next guests.
Bed Linen
The beds are made upon arrival based on the guest occupation and layout requested. There is no sheet change during your stay unless you have requested it through the house management agency.
Please don’t place your suitcase with dirty wheels on the bed when packing or unpacking.
C
Casa Bernardo
You will probably have seen this room above the white stairs leading off the chill zone. This area is reserved for the cleaning and maintenance crew and is not accessible to guests.
Complaints
If you have any complaints during your stay, which we hope will not be the case but can of course happen, please contact your house management agency contact and they will of course be of immediate assistance to solve any issues. There are also official claims forms available if you feel that those issues have not been addressed adequately by the house management agency. Those forms can be filled in online and there is a QR code to allow you to fill them in. They can also be filled in manually and submitted through regular mail. The documents are available further in this manual.
D
Drinking Water
The water that comes out of the regular faucets is not recommended for drinking. There is however a filtered-water tap in the kitchen (on the left hand side of the sink). The filter is a ceramic candle which has pores fine enough to remove all sediment, bacteria and spores, and within that is a carbon filter which removes chemicals, particularly chlorine which is heavily present in the regular tap water, as well all heavy metals via an ion exchange. The filter will not remove any minerals that are considered good for health and that give the water a nice taste. This water is perfectly safe to drink.
Door Locks
The doors other than the front door that lead from the inside of the house to the outside are locked from the inside with a locket. This is the case for
- the sliding glass doors that lead from the living room onto the patio above the pool deck
- the glass door that leads from the dining room to the upper terrace
- the double glass doors that lead from the Espuma de Mar room onto the terrace
Please ensure these doors are locked from the inside before leaving the house unattended.
Dryer
The house is equipped with a washer and dryer that are located on the upper terrace directly opposite the glass door that opens from the dining room onto the terrace. The dryer is to the right.
To use it, place your clothing inside, and close the door firmly. Press the ON button, rotate the dial to highlight the type of drying cycle of your choice, and then press the START button.
When the dryer finishes its cycle a chime will play and the machine can be emptied.
The dryer is not connected to an output drain, it functions through condensation and holds the water extracted in a water tank in a drawer on the top left. If the dryer stops functioning, and flashes with a logo of a drop of water, it means that the tank is full. If this occurs, pull out the water tank and empty it in the sink. Replace it and press the START button again and the cycle will continue as planned.
Please check the filters regularly and remove any lint build up.

Gas canisters
There are two different types of gas canisters in the house
- the RED and BEIGE ones that say CEPSA on the top which are used for the water heater (see Hot Water Gas Heater (Upper Terrace))
- the WHITE ones with DISA written on the top which are for the Barbecue (see Barbecue), Plancha (see Plancha) and Paella ring.
There are spares for these located in the house, either in the cupboard underneath the outdoor stairs or on the Upper Terrace. If you need to replace them they all function in the same way.
Remove the empty canister by rotating the safety latch forward from its vertical position to a forward tipped one, which will free up the valve half ring. Place your fingers underneath the half ring and lift it up. You will hear a click that indicates the valve has released from the canister. The regulator will automatically lift off the canister.
Replace the new canister in the space and place the regulator firmly on the canister. You will hear a click when it is in place and half ring has clipped on to the canister. Rotate the safety latch from its forward tipped position back into a vertical one. A small click will ensure it is correctly placed.
When the plancha/barbecue is not in use just pivoting the safety latch to a horizontal position will ensure that the canister is sealed and no gas can escape it.
Please always use caution when working with gas.

Hot Water Electrical Heater (Left sSide Garden)
The hot water heater that heats the water for the two bathrooms on the left side of the house (in Salvia Room and Aguamarina Room), is an electric boiler and is located on the left side of the house when facing the front door, around the side and in a cupboard behind the clothes drying line.
There should never be any issue with this boiler but if for any reason there is no hot water in the bathroom in Salvia or Aguamarina Room, this could result form two issues:
- The water heater may be unplugged so should just be plugged back into the socket.
- The water heater may be empty if the supply has all been used up. If this is the case then you will have to wait a bit for the supply to warm again.
Please use water responsibly.
Hot Water Gas Heater (Upper Terrace)
The hot water heater that heats the water for the kitchen, outdoor kitchen and the bathroom on the right hand side of the house (terrace side) is a gas heater and is located on the Upper Terrace, on the right hand side when you exit from the dining room onto the terrace. It relies on gas from gas canisters. The canister that is connected to it is located outside the terrace next to the wooden door under a cement shelter.
If for any reason there is no more hot water in the kithen or the bathroom in Hierba Room, this could result form two issues:
- The water heater may be switched off, for instance if there has been a power failure. If this occurs, it will shut off and not restart automatically. Should this happen, just press the ON button on the screen. It will light up with 50° highlighted and it is on.
- If the water heater is on but there is no hot water, it may be that the gas canister is empty. There is a spare available in the house in the cupboard under the stairs or the terrace area. It is beige and red with the words CESPA written across the top.
For instructions on how to change the canister see the Gas Canisters section.
If you prefer to not do this on your own, feel free to contact the management agency and they will be happy to come and change it for you.
Please always use caution when working with gas.
Please use water responsibly.
I
Iron
There is an iron and ironing board in the kitchen utility cupboard on the left when you enter the kitchen. The iron needs to be filled with water prior to using it through the funnel at the top under the gold lid. Please use filtered water from the drinking water fountain rather than regular water. This ensures the chlorine and some of the grout is filtered out. Otherwise it will come out in small rocks and could stain or damage your clothes.
K
Keys
Guests will receive on arrival two sets of keys on a key chain. They open
· the front door (with a GREEN label)
· the front terrace lateral wooden door that leads to the outside area (with an ORANGE label). From there, you can walk down the path to the pool deck.
The side door that leads to the pool deck can be opened from the inside with a locket.
All other entrances into the house are closed from the inside with lockets (see Door Locks).
Please ensure that all entrances to the house are securely locked prior to leaving the house unattended.
O
Outdoor Lights
There are lights all around the house that are switched on in different locations:
- Patio – the switch is located in the living room on the right hand side of the bay window – the switch is the right hand one.
- Pool deck – the switch is located in the living room on the right hand side of the bay window – the switch is the left hand one.
- Outdoors left side – the switch is located in the front hall, next to the front door, the switch is the second upon entry.
- Outdoors front – the switch is located in the front hall, next to the front door, the first switch upon entry.
- Upper terrace – the switch is on the left hand side wall when you exit onto the terrace from the dining room, it switches all the lights on around the terrace except the light in the center of the kitchen which is switched on with the switch a few steps further on the left
P
Plancha
The outdoor kitchen is equipped with a gas plancha. To use it, remove the cover and place it safely so that it won’t blow away, or burn in contact with the plancha.
Ensure that the gas canister is connected and open.
Ensure that the receptacle that looks like a metallic mug in the front left corner is in place to collect any fats or food remains while cooking.
Open the two burners to the highest burn position and then press the BLUE starter button. This should ignite the gas and you will see flames. If this does not happen, close the burners and check the previous steps and try again.
Lower the burners to the ideal temperature you would like to cook at.
When you have finished cooking, the plancha needs to be cleaned which is a very easy task if performed immediately.
Switch off the burners and while the plancha is still hot, poor a glass of water that will cause the burned fats to just detach. Push all the residue into the mug with the plancha tools, then empty, clean and replace it.
If this is not enough, perform the task again but add a little bit of dishwashing detergent to the glass of water. Pour the soapy water onto the plancha, and, using the round metallic sponge, make small rotating movements across the plancha. Again drive the soapy dirty water into the mug with the plancha tools, then empty, clean and replace it.
When the plancha is no longer too hot, it can be dried down with a paper towel.
When it has cooled down completely it can be covered again until next use.
Please clean the plancha properly to ensure it is usable for the next meal, or the next guests.
Pool and Pool Cover
The pool heating is solar during the summer months, and is switched to a heat pump in the less sunny periods of the year. Our maintenance crew performs the pool cleaning and dosing of products on a regular basis and they strive to keep it healthy and warm.
Please do not add anything to the pool, or change anything on the settings that have been programmed in the pool operations room, which is off on the left hand side of the garden.
Because the heating is solar, and hence warms the pool throughout the sunshine hours of the day, it is important to cover the pool at night in order to maintain the temperature, otherwise it will drop by a few degrees during the night.
Please do cover the pool at night, this only takes a few minutes.
Before opening the pool cover, gather the rope that sits at the right end of the pool, and place it at the side of the cover roller feet beside the handle. This ensures that you can access it afterwards when you unroll the cover without having to get back in the pool.
Then remove the section that covers the steps and place it somewhere where it won’t fly away – close to the pool deck cupboard is a good place to put it.
Finally to roll up the cover turn the handle counter clockwise until the cover has rolled all the way around the roller. Use the rope to tie the flap tight around the handle or screw so that it remains rolled up while you are swimming.
There is no need to remove the roller so please don’t try to remove it as it is quite heavy.
To close the pool cover, release the rope and walk to the right end of the pool with the end of the rope. Gently pull the rope towards you and it will unravel the cover which will come to settle on the pool surface. Ensure the rope again is coiled and placed on the green carpet surface at the end of the pool for the following day. Give a last turn of the handle so that the elastic ropes that hold the cover onto the roller are fully distended and the cover is flat on the pool surface.
Replace the section that covers the steps by just placing the flap above the cover.
Printer
The HP printer on the desk is connected to the Wi-Fi so, once in the Wi-Fi you should be able to access it. It is called HoopoePrinter. If it runs out of paper there is paper in the cupboard underneath the printer. Pull the paper drawer out from underneath the output tray by the handle below. The paper slides underneath the grey cover and falls into place automatically once you close the drawer.

Smoking
Our house is a non-smoking house, and we hope that you will respect this. You are however allowed to smoke outside on the terrace and patio.
Please do not smoke indoors and empty your ashtray promptly as the wind can spread ashes and be a fire hazard.
Speaker
There is a green loudspeaker that rests on its charging dock station in the living room, underneath the television. It is wireless and can be removed and taken about the house. It does need to return to ts dock to charge however when you are not using it, and it cannot stay outdoors especially if it rains. You can connect to it via Bluetooth. In order to pair it to your telephone, go to your Bluetooth device list on your phone which will automatically open its search capability for Bluetooth devices around. On the back of the speaker press down on the small Bluetooth button which is underneath the ON button, and you will hear a chime. At this point you will be able to select the device to connect to, its called SONOS Move 2 Lanzarote. From this point you can stream music from your phone, or music provider account directly to the speaker.
Please do not leave the speaker outdoors and return it to its charging station when no longer in use.

Television
The LG Smart TV is switched on with the remote control.
The remote functions in a point and click a bit like a mouse, but you can also use the arrows on the wheel to navigate up, down and left and right. The center button is the selection key, and the back arrow is just below the wheel.
In the center of the screen you will see a series of apps starting with APPS, and then a set of icons that allow you to connect to your own Netflix, Disney +, Apple TV and Amazon Prime accounts. If you wish to use them, click on whichever one you choose and you will then be prompted to introduce your own log in details if you wish to connect to your personal account(s).
Between the APPS icon and these icons, there is a red and black circular icon with an arrow, short for IBO Player. This icon connects to an IPTV system, and the further menu prompts you to open tv channels, movies, series. You will have access to most of the TV channels of every country as a pick down menu. When you return, the latest channels you will have watched will be readily available without having to navigate to them through the list. Press the ON button, rotate the dial to highlight the type of washing cycle of your choice, and then press the START button.
When the washing machine finishes its cycle a chime will play and the machine can be emptied and the clothes hung to dry or put in the dryer.
Please check the filters regularly and remove any lint build up.
